Fans and Their Celebrity Love

Here’s the gist, I never really understood why so many fans fall head over heels for Celebrities, what was up with all the shouting and screams, why fans of the late Micheal Jackson would lose consciousness just by having him touch them. And sure it baffled me for a long time, I mean the guy was just a MAN, right?.

I like to apologize to non biology folks, cause, I mean I am a biochemist, I can’t but rep. So here’s the simple explanation, I do hope you get it:

There are basically Four Hormones/Neurotransmitters responsible for this behaviour:

• Cortisol is a stress hormone
• Dopamine seeks out pleasure
• Norepinephrine makes you highly excitable
• Serotonin is a mood stabilizer.

When you see a Celebrity you are a fan of: your Serotonin level drops, Cortisol production increases, Dopamine is released as a result and because it requires a high level of risk on your part, Norepinephrine is produced which makes you uncontrollably excited.Obviously, this science stuff is not the reason I wrote this post in the first place. So, here is the story: Truth be told I wasn’t overly excited to go to church this Sunday, and I kept coming up with some excuses like every typical person would, and one which most people will agree with is: I don’t have any cloth to wear. To cut the long story short I finally decided on what to wear, just very simple cloths I was Comfortable with, emphasis on the Comfortable. We got to church and hey by the way I am a member of Daystar or Daystar Christian Church as some people known it as, and normal normal na the usher directed us to our seats and service started, praise and worship was blissful. Pastor then asked us to greet our neighbours right after our regular prayer session, I turned and lo and behold it was EVA ALORDIAH, I couldn’t contain my excitement, so I told my brother who was seated a seat away from me. I whispered to him; that’s Eva. I made up my mind right there and then I wasn’t going to let this one slide, I had to take a Selfy with her.

Of course I was listening to Pastor Sam Adeyemi’s sermon, which was about Forgiveness (It pays to forgive). With all those neurotransmitters I described earlier making me uncontrollably exicted I made it through service and walked up to her.

Here is how the conversation went

Me: Hi Eva, I am Segun. It nice seeing you here

Eva: Thanks

Me: I really love your jam: Deaf and eerh, War coming, and congratulations on your new album

Eva: Thanks, what’s your name?

Me: Segun…….. Do you mind if I take a picture with you

Eva: …….Yes, but it has to be quick, you know we are in church

Me: No problem.

Me: It was nice meeting, do have a wonderful week

Eva: Thanks, Bye.

Yeeaah! I know, it’s obvious I couldn’t contain the excitement, I mean look at that smile; it’s so wide. I literally was on cloud 9 and I finally understood all celebrity fans; when you see someone you really like, it’s impossible to hide such excitement. This is one experience I won’t forget.

According to International Labour Organization (ILO) Trend, despite the increase in world economy by 3.1% estimate, the number of unemployed people in the active population (ages 15 to 64) which as at 2015 was 197.1million will increase nearly by 2.3 million this year and 1.1 million in 2017. The same report also says that 1.5 billion people are vulnerable employees which is over 46% of total employment and in Southern Asia and sub-Saharan Africa countries such as Nigeria, 70% of workers are in vulnerable employment, as well as having limited access to contributory social protection schemes, these workers suffer from low productivity and low and highly volatile earnings. There are also significant gender gaps in job quality. Women face a 25 to 35 per cent higher risk of being in vulnerable employment than men in certain countries in Northern Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab States.

Support the Nigerian Gender Equality Bill until every person regardless of gender, ethnicity or race has equal right.

It is then of utmost importance that we understand how to place ourselves in a position of massive advantage, where you and I will be the select few in a haystack. Simply put your Curriculum Vitae is an avenue to prove to yourself and employer that you are worthy of employment and the measure of investment you desire.

Many of us have heard of such advert.

Quick facts

• Many individuals are unemployable.
• For any JOB advert placed there is an average of 200 people applying for the same job.
• It takes an employer 5-30 seconds to read through your C.V./Resume.
• Employers now make use  of computer programs that run analysis on C.V.

Curriculum vitae (C.V.) is a Latin word meaning ‘course of life’. Resume on the other hand is a French word for summary. In UK, commonwealth countries; a C.V. is usually not more than two A4 pages and only contains information particular to the position you applied for. In U.S a C.V. is much longer with all your qualifications and everything you have done so far, while resumes are shorter and for positions applied. It most times depends on the company or organization.

Contents of a C.V.

1. Contact details: name, house address, phone number and email.
2. Profile: in a sentence sell yourself and what your competencies are
3. Career goals: what is your life goal?
4. Educational qualification; M.sc, B.Sc., secondary leaving certificate
5. Interest: what you like, your hobbies
6. Awards and honour
7. Volunteer service: what organization you worked with
8. Key accomplishments: what you did, where you did it and how you did it
9. Core competences: e.g. time management
10. Research work
11. Publication
12. References
13. Qualification and Skills
14. Previous work experience

They can be written in any order that suits you best.

Here are somes tips on how to effectively write a C.V.

• Tailor it to the job you are applying for
• Kiss: keep it short and simple not more than two A4 pages, conciseness of your C.V cannot be overemphasized.
• Your personal statement or profile must be compelling, passionate and must answer the question of who you are.
• Keep your C.V up to date
• Focus on achievement and never rewrite job description.
• Never lie, it could do more harm than good.
• Get someone to proof read.
• Be cautious of your social media profile and presence, sell yourself on social media, platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, WordPress, Instagram are powerful tools to utilize.
• Use reader friendly fonts and font size, possibly Times new roman.
• Mind your language and use of English.
• Select key items you want to highlight.
• Learn to rephrase sentences, rather than write you love surfing the net; reading and research is more appropriate, or rather than writing I love meeting people simply put networking.
• Your activities and programs you helped organise is also part of your work experience.
• Volunteer works are a great push if you ever did any
• Don’t leave gaps, if there were courses you took, volunteer work you did or soft skills you developed, write them out.
• You could ask for professional help, also make the best use of the internet or you can also upload your C.V on websites that offer free appraisals.

• Skills were not highlighted
• Too religious
• Watch your caps and typos
• When there was IT experience there was no specification to what you did.
• You seem to be self-driven but it does not spell that out

SELF PRAISE

There is a point in life were each of us deserve a measure of praise, were we ought not to be concern what other say,a point when we say to ourselves that we have been fearfully and wonderfully made,a point were we will glorify in what we have been given.
One more thing I am deeply sorry I have lagged behind in my commitment to blog everyday, I have been so occupied this last few days that I haven’t posted ever since.

HAVE YOU HEARD

With only shorts,tops and slippers eight men risked everything to get to the top of a mountain(over 300 feets high with 7 different levels and a village ahead). With a burning passion we walked,crawled and ran over rocky grounds and lonely paths.
We split into two groups and soon after hope was almost lost, yet we persevered.
With our feet weak and our backs tired,fear crept slowly into our hearts as we had no idea where we were or the location of the other group,but we encouraged ourselves saying; we have gotten this far and we are never going back.Straight and forward we pressed on.
Finally we got to the top,with excitement we shouted and everyone in the groups gave handshake and hugged,afterwards we daubed the wall of an old building with our names and ran to the stream to see the origin of the great waterfall down below. Victory was finally ours as we were told we walked into a village in a new State ‘Ekiti state from Osun’.
This short story was an event that took place on my departmental excursion to a waterfall. And here is a poem I composed afterwards. Like it,comment on it and share it. Ciao.

Have you heard of the tale of 8 men
who would never turn back
in the face of danger
or obstacles.

Have you heard of the quest of 8 men
who would cross hills and valleys
without the slightest
idea of a destination.

to find their way through the mountain

Many at times, someone of us are stuck,we are stuck when it comes to taking that giant leap,we are stuck when putting our plans and dreams in motion, we are stuck when all we have to do is take a leap of faith.

I AM

While growing up,I used to be a timid and shy guy with a low self-esteem. I never really thought much of myself,I felt like there was no place I could fit in and everyone else was better than I was.
But when I found purpose and direction, my life took a u-turn. And now I see myself the way I ought to; as a winner,believer, a person made for success and so many other things.
